COLLECTIVE SHOVEL

A homemade readymade for use in heavy blizzards.

We think that shovelling snow should be fun and something we could do together, making it easier for everyone to go about their daily lives.

The collective shovel is a readymade in its conception, but do to financial constraints made from recuperated material. Six metal plates used for a street sign and wood from a local container make up the main structure. Nails and screws had to be removed from the wood. It was later cut in two by a local professional maker of snow slays. The collective shovel was assembled in our studio. It is five meters long, and can be used by eight persons at a time. Due to its length, the shovel did not fit through the door and had to be taken out by the window. During our product test one of the shafts were broken, but we still took the snow for a  good haul.
